  • Do I need to worry about PH Levels?
With our tower system there is no need to worry about PH or Oxygen levels as it is a non-recirculating system. just fill up your nutrient reservoir and you're good to go! As for our Smart Garden system which is a recirculating system we recommend emptying and refilling the reservoir once a week. If you decide to continue recirculating the same nutrient water solution you'll need to begin checking the PH and O2 levels after one week or so as well as make sure your still adding nutrients weekly regularly. The value of our recirculating system is placing these on any surface that does not have adequate drainage.
  • How do I get nutrients?
You can purchase nutrients from us directly or be a part of our quarterly subscription where we will send you nutrients, seeds and information every three months.
  • When should I refill my nutrient tank?
Refill the nutrient tank when the levels are just above your submersible pump. A 40gl tank should last you around 10-20 days. It's important not to let the nutrient tank empty completely as running the pump without water can cause the pump to fail permanently. For your smart garden system we recommend emptying and refilling the reservoir every week.
  • How much nutrients do I need per month?
The 2lbs of Nutrient (A) and 2 lbs of Nutrient (B) supplied with the system should last 60 days or longer when used properly. Each bag of nutrients when combined as Part A &B makes enough nutrients to mix with 250 gallonse of water. You'll need approximately 50 gallons of nutrients/water every 10-20 days. With this each 2lb bag combined (Part A & B) should last through 5 each of the 10-20 day feeding/watering cycles.
  • Will my garden die if I go out of town for a couple days?
The four tower system can be self sufficient for about 10-20 days depending on how many plants are growing. Just remember to fill up your nutrient tank before leaving for a long period of time and you should be good to go. Over time, you'll get a good understanding of how often you will need to fill your nutrient tank. The Smart Garden tower system is a bit different as it is recirculated so it's best to drain and refill this every 7-10 days.
  • What is in the nutrients?
In hydroponic systems, plants require a range of essential nutrients for healthy growth. These nutrients are typically provided in a balanced solution that replaces what would naturally be found in soil. The primary nutrients essential for plant growth in hydroponics are: Nitrogen (N) Phosphorus (P) Potassium (K) Calcium (Ca) Magnesium (Mg) Sulfur (S)
  • What growing medium do I use?
For hydroponics we recommend mixing a 50/50 blend of perlite and vermiculite which provides a great medium for a large variety of plants typically grown. Using soil works great too but using soil is not advised while using our hydrponic nutrients and feeding/watering automation. These planters are are not just used for hydroponic applications. They are versatile enough to use with soil either stacked or not.
  • Can I grow fruits?
Almost any fruit can be grown hydroponically, but some varieties do better than others such as strawberries. With our smaller growing planters, it's important not to overcrowd the planter with plants that are too large to be supported such as trees and bushes.
  • How many gallons should my nutrient tank hold?
It's entirely up to you! We recommend at least a 40gl tank where you would have to refill it about every 10 to 20 days depending on how many plants you are feeding.
  • What is hydroponic gardening?
Hydroponic gardening is a method of growing plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water solutions to deliver essential minerals and elements directly to the plant roots. Instead of soil, plants are typically grown in an inert medium like perlite & vermiculite, providing support to the roots while allowing them to access the nutrient solution.
  • How should I store my nutrients?
In the dry form (bags) store in a dry and temperature regulated environment. Once mixed with water, it's also important to store in a dark place to avoid algae from growing in the water/nutrient mix. Important: Please handle this product with care. Keep out of children’s reach. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Store it in a cool, dark place.
  • How do I plant?
We use the same standard planting practices as any other garden. We simply create a small hole in the growing medium, add our seeds and fill the hole with the same medium. It is best to avoid planting seeds directly under where a stackable pot drains downward so simply plant closer to the edge of the planting "pocket".
  • How do I grow with hydroponics?
To make it simple you add nutrients to your water and then water your plants. It’s like mixing Kool-aid but instead using powdered nutrients. When growing in soil the fertilizer is in the soil but with hydroponics the food is in the water. Instead of soil you use perlite and vermiculite which provides the plants support and allows the roots to "breath". The grow mediums do not have plant food in them and so, again, the food is added to the water.
  • What is the stackable planter made of?
The planters are made of Food Safe Polypropylene #5. This materials is the same as what is used for yogurt containers except ours are much bigger.
  • How often should I check on my garden?
With water and nutrients, your smart garden should be checked at least once a week and youre four tower system can be left unattended for up to 20 days. Other things should be checked perioidically, especially as you get used to your gardens nuiances. Things like timer settings, electrical supply, and plant health should be checked periodically and take very little time to inspect. These inspections are simply a "walk through the garden".
  • How long will my planter pots last?
With the type of materials used to manufacturer the planters, these will last over 10 years. In Easy Grow Solutions' gardens we've been using the same pots for over 8 years with very little signs of degredation. And this is through the hot summer months in Florida.
  • Can I grow spices and herbs?
Most types of herbs thrive in our hydroponic garden systems. Check our “What to grow” section on our website for recommendations.
  • Can I grow through the summer months?
Yes! With our automated systems many varieties of plants will thrive in the hot summer months of Florida. With the default settings, the plants receive water and nutrients three times a day. If you find your plants looking like they aren't getting enough water add one minute (for a total of two) to your mid-day setting, or add another time of day for your pump to turn on for one minute. This should prevent wilting and drying of the medium.
